I want to add some call out text to reinforce the voice overs. However I want these running separately to the animations - so for example, half way through an animation a call out text would fade in and fade out again.

Is this possible?

Elements are animated one at a time in the same order they appear in the timeline. An element cannot be added in the middle of another element.

If you are making your own SVGs you could split the image up into 2 SVGs and put the text element between them in the timeline. That way the first part of the image is drawn, then text appears, then the second half of the image is drawn.
