Image import issues

Hi; I have a sample single colour image that I am trying to import from jpeg. The convert is giving me a number of options but non of these a straighforward 'animation' of the image. The best I have got is the hand drawing bits of the image at a time and repeatedly going over the image to fill in the gaps. Thoughts?

jpgs and PNGs usually will not "draw" as well as properly made SVG images.

Your options are:

1) use whatever import setting you think look best to draw your jpg

2) use "move-in" instead of "draw" as your animation type

3) choose an SVG from the image library or some other source

4) learn to make SVGs that will draw better than jpgs

Mike. Many thanks for your response. Investigated software for making SVGs; downloaded Inkscape ,  installed and did a couple of tests. After a bit of experimenting it all works perfectly. Now I need to find the collection of cartoon characters I created a few years ago and get importing:) Peter.

Great!  One final note: be sure to download the older version of inkscape (0.48.5) instead of the newer one because the newer one is known to cause some undesired drawing problems in videoscribe.

Thanks for the heads up. I downloaded the 64bit version instead of the 'older' version. I'll keep an eye out for any undesired problems. Peter

OK; changed versions of Inkscape to the 'older' one and tried all work rounds and best practices (that I could find on this and other sites) to import an image with a colour background. The pen draws the black stroke and the same width of the red fill. The pen also picks up 'artifacts' from anything that is close to the line being drawn, including intersections and other close non related objects. Thoughts.

1) attach the SVG please.

2) The symptom suggests that the image was made using a new version of inkscape. if you save a new SVG, and then in videoscribe you try to import the new image from the recently used images thumbnails... you are still using the old SVG image. You have to navigate to the correct location of the new image file on your hard drive and import it from there.

3) If you are sure you are not doing that, then open inkscape and check the help or about menu and report the exact version number here.

Also:  Did you uninstall the new version of inkscape before installing the old version? because I have a sneaking suspicion that you are still getting the new version when you run the program. You may want to try uninstalling all versions of inkscape from your computer, and deleting any shortcut icons, and then reinstalling only the old version (0.48.5).

Thanks for the notes. Yes did an uninstall before new install. The version is 0.48.5 r10040. I think I might have cracked it. I had hoped that a file saved in a new version of a software might would loose the 'issues' when opened, edited and resaved using the older version. It would appear not. I created a new drawing from scratch in the 0.48 version and this does not seem to be exhibiting the same problem. I will do some more testing:) Many thanks for your support; this forum is awesome.
