Maybe I am just missing it but is there a way to bring in a picture and text at the same time? Do one always have to complete before the other starts?
Thanks.

You would have to combine them into the same image if you want to bring them in at the same time.

OK, sounds simple enough. But how do you do that?

depends on the image and what software you have.
for jpg or png images, probably using Photoshop (if you have it) or Gimp (free at gimp.org)
for SVG images adobe illustrator or inkscape (free at inkscape .org)
if you are using images in the videoscribe library, I don't think you are allowed (by the terms of use) to alter those.
If you set the animation, pause time and transition time to zero, (and use "draw" as your animation type) the image will appear instantly and you you can set the animation time to zero for the next element (text) also to make it seem to appear at the same time.
